Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first session at New Heights.

Who can benefit from therapeutic riding?
New Heights serves children and adults with a wide range of disabilities — including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, ADHD, PTSD, TBI, and more.
What should I wear to a session?
Long pants (jeans) and closed-toe shoes with a small heel. Helmets are provided and must be worn during all mounted activities.
How safe is it?
Safety is our top priority. Every session is supported by trained side walkers and a handler. Our horses are specifically selected for their calm temperaments.
How do I get started?
Contact Kelley at (785) 577-3161. All participants must complete an intake form. Hippotherapy participants also require a physician referral.
How much does it cost?
We use a sliding scale fee structure to ensure accessibility. Scholarships are available. We do not accept insurance.
Therapeutic Riding vs. Hippotherapy?
Therapeutic riding focuses on physical, emotional, and cognitive goals. Hippotherapy is a clinical OT treatment using the horse's movement for neuromuscular dysfunction.
Is New Heights a religious organization?
We are a faith-based organization rooted in Christian values, but we welcome and serve participants of all backgrounds and beliefs.
